Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

Just wanted you to know I truly feel your pain. The “Rainbow Bridge” was given to me along with our beloved Collie’s Kelly Mayo’s ashes. We lost Kelly almost 2 years ago. Not a day goes by that we don’t miss her. She was such a wonderful pet and family member. As her health started to go down hill, with heavy hearts we decided the only humane thing was to put her down. I stayed with her to the end. My husband was too distraught and had to leave the room. They truly have their own personalities. Don’t they? : ) My heart goes out to you and your family on your loss God Bless You. Maybe Kelly and Traveler are running together as we speak! Would’nt that be a great thought!

Hi Capt Jim,
My condolences to you and your Family on the lose of Traveler. Only those who have been through this can truly understand how hard it is when we lose or best friends. We lost ours just over a year ago and we still feel the lose.
I just kept telling myself, “This is what I signed up for when we brought her home 13 years ago”. I bet traveler had a great life.

Hi Capt. Jim:
I have been fishing on the Cock Robin since I remember and I will never forget having to go off by myself and shed a tear when Johnny told me the news. I fished a few days later than when she passed and that is when I found out the news. Trav was as much a part of the Cock Robin as the closeness of the crew and bonding of the regulars. Traveler will be missed dearly and it will be hard to fish without our companion.

Jim, I just accessed your web page and Iam deeply sorrowed to hear about TRAVELER. As I type this I have a tear or two in my eyes. I can recall him as a pup, all legs! All the years I have fished on the Cock Robin I was always greeted by him with a wagging tail. I will miss his fond greeting. The best to you.

One of the things I really liked about your boat the first time I fished with you was the fact that you had Traveler aboard with you. It just added that extra bit of character that lots of of captains just don’t have. My condolences to all who cared and were close to Traveler. He will be missed, but not forgotten. Can’t wait to get out of Vermont for some fishin.’

We were very sorry to hear that Travler passed away. He was like a little kid when I first came to the boat, and such a loving mate. He will always be remembered. God Bless and God Speed Travler.

It’s still very difficult for me to look at this Tribute to my pal and my best friend and constant companion. There were VERY few times when Trav and I weren’t together on the boat, and he is missed more than I can express.
It’s heart warming and it makes me even MORE proud of Traveler when read your comments, and knowing how he touched all of you the way he did me. Thank you all for your very kind words, and for remembering one of the best dogs and one of the best, most loyal friends that anyone could wish for. He will never be forgotten and he will certainly live on as a Cock Robin Crewmember!

Lloyd and I will miss Traveler dearly as he was such a part of the crew and of our fishing trips. I know how heartbreaking it is to lose your companion. Our condolences to Captain Jim and the rest of the crew on their loss of a great crew member.

Hey Jim. Just read about Traveler. I remember one time in his younger days I was sick and laying on floor of 2nd upper deck. He came out and layed next to me for almost an hr. Gonna miss him.

Capt. Jim: I was so sorry to here about Traveler’s
Passing. Several weeks ago I lost my shelty that was
a small verson of Traveler. He used to fish with me all the time before age caught up to him.He was 15
when he passed. The only thing I could not teach him
was to dislike “Jet skys” as much as Traveler did.

My condolences to you and your Family on the lose of Traveler. Only those who have been through this can truly understand how hard it is when we lose or best friends. I lost my best friend Duke just a short time ago. We were together over 14yrs. he was my best freind, running buddy, and much more. I started a new job over 2yrs ago and the day I had to put him down was the only day I missed going into work in the last two years.
Sounds to me likd Traveler had as good a life as my Duke, so we can only pray we will go to the same place someday and see them again.

When I spoke with you the other day and found out about Trav I was very sad. Because it reminded me of when I had to put Griz to sleep – my samoyed and best pal.
As I write this I am reminded of how he greeted me every tuesday when I came to fish and how he waited for me to return from the coffee shop for his hand out and you were always mad at me for feeding him.
Also I’ll never forget being up on the bridge with Trav and him waiting for me to break his biskets and hand feed them to him for him to eat. He will truly be missed and my condolences to you Jim.
I know Trav and Griz are at the Rainbow Bridge waiting for us….

It’s a bit late to comment on your loss. I have only been on your boat a handful of times. I remember being greeted by Traveler your old salt. I am planning a trip to your boat this weekend and will miss seeing him. May his memory live on.

Capt. Jim,
You’ll never forget that extraordinary “bond” between Traveler and you. And that’s what needs to endure. Pets depend on us (owners) to do what’s right and Traveler had no problem with that rule. Traveler had many more friends than an average dog and many mourn his passing. Just think of all the priceless time you two spent together and keep referring to those memories when you need to feel him near you. A friend, a mate and a family member…all in one non-complaining package. The best.

My sincere condolences for your loss. I don’t get out fishing that often but I try to get go at least once a season. My first trip out was with my father in 1999 and we went on the Cock Robin. That was the first time I met you, your crew and Traveler. I can still vividly remember spending most of that day that day sitting up top with you and playing with Traveler. I did do some fishing that day though managed to catch a few blues. It was such a wonderful experience that since then I have never been on any other boat. Every time I go out it is on the Cock Robin and after every trip I go home telling people about Traveler and what a great “mate” he was. He will truly be missed and I’m not sure what I will do the next time I go out and he isn’t there to greet me as we pull in to the dock.

Capt.Jim You had a great friend & pet with Travler. I can remember when the seas were not friendly and steeping on him in the wheel house & he would just look up at me say why did you do that.
He was one great dog.I still tell people about how he would not leave the curb in the lot. Again sorry

Capt.Jim, I’m so sorry about TRAVELER, That PUP was the BEST!!!! My heart goes out to you and the fishing family…… If any dog or human had the best life it was him…. CAPT. TRAVELER will always be with you and the boat….. The COCK ROBIN is the only boat i ever care to go on when i’m in town…….

Hey Capt Jim, I am so sorry to hear Travler passed away. I truly understand how hard it is. Being a pet owner I have been through it myself. My thoughts are with you and Travler. I remember him always greeting me at the dock and the boat. I remember also when he wanted to just play and pounce around instead of getting on the boat right away. I still have pictures of me and Travler. I know I will miss travler just as much as you and everyone else will. He will always be with us. R.I.P. Hi Captain Jim, what great testimonies to your beloved Traveler. Great dogs capture the hearts of their human families. Exceptional dogs catch their souls. Traveler by his fan clubs responses and yours was indeed a soul catcher. How fitting for you Capt. Jim as a catcher of the Sea to be also a catcher of Canines through Traveler. As a Civil War buff, I know that Traveler was the name of Robert E. Lee’s war-horse. So I love Traveler’s AKC? name of Traveler Sables Confederacy. What a magnificent looking and loving creature was he! My name is George Kennedy and I will be with the Seeing Eye group that’s fishing with you on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011. If all goes well, I will be bringing my” Crosby,” a four year old male German Shepherd who is handsome as hell, weighs a svelte 85 lbs. and stands 29″ at the shoulder. He’s a true gentleman who will steal your heart. Thank you for allowing him to come aboard and hopefully be up-top with you in your loving care. George

I am saddened to hear of your loss. My buddy and I have fished on the Cock Robin for many years.We would always look forward to Traveler going after the jetskis on the way out and back. It was always nice to look up and see that friendly face hanging over the top deck. He will be missed, but not forgotten.

Dear Capn. Jim, Your Traveler was magnificent standing on the deck like a masthead on the Cock Robin. You still must miss him at times. I keep hoping you will adopt a collie rescue dog (so you needn’t do the baby work!) and have a new “Voyager.” My dog and I met you walking sometimes at night.
